What Language Do You Think In ? – Connected Edition 108 – Event Review ..

So we started this particular edition  before the event.  We put out this image and got people wondering …

We had a bit of fun with this with a lot of conversations …

Oh and if you are still wondering what it is about .. it is simple …
“Which other Western Country do they advertise something  as NOT FOR SALE ?

In Nigeria, we are so used to this trend and do not realise it is an Anomaly… are you laughing yet ? Most people did … some people had over analysed the image …

After a few games of Ludo … Event proper started …

It is amazing how many people still argue about this dress and its colour …

Or what this audio file is saying …

Or whether or not this shoe is pink or green ..

We had more than a few laughs with people defending what they saw or heard …  I SAW what I saw after all .. lol (if you know, you know) …

As an aside, Yes! different people see or hear different things for each of the above … it is highly dependent on your natural biases … How you grew up … left brain or right brain …  etc… for example, the audio file … most females hear one thing whereas most guys hear something else  … the point is can you actually trust your hears or eyes …

Back to the event.

People got to introduce themselves by mentioning  something normal about them which other people find abnormal … from the one that is ambidextrous to the one that does not eat rice in the morning … all in our small gathering  … chai.

It was time for Nigerian English words … what do all these have in common ? “Disvirgin” …  “opportuned” … “gisted”.

None of them are in the “normal” English dictionary. We made them up in Nigeria … and we all use them …

What about sentences that are literal translations of a local language  … Yes, we went there… “as at when due” nko?

The final word was taken from 1 Corinthians 9: 19-23 … “became all things to all men” … about how we need to stay malleable and question even the things we think we are sure of.

This edition of Connected Lagos held at Nyalahs in Alagomeji (Yaba) on 19th January . It was a Friday nite out over drinks And dinner. Next edition is on February 23 … We are going to Lekki Leisure lake …

The ongoing #connectedDASH #1minute was also announced. The campaign which started in 2018 is coming to an end in February.

Thank you for reading … see you at an edition of Connected Lagos …

… Come and be going …
